| so i have part I of boards for optometry in 10 days. not looking forward to it. studying's been going pretty well but could be better i guess. i think i need more pressure to study...
so i was reading over the endocrine section and it got me thinking: growth hormone has a diabetogenic effect on cells (decrease amount of glucose absorption) due to the stimulation of amino acids movement into cells and protein production. is there a direct correlation between the prevalence of growth hormone in food (not as much now, i suppose) and the increase in diabetes? |

| i have to say, ordering nutrisystem was one of my worst ideas ever! if anyone asks about it, tell them not to do it! i counted the calories and it's like 1000 calories/day. i think a sedentary male needs at least 1500 for basic bodily functions, else he's starving himself! and according to this website i found, i should be eating 3000 calories/day to maintain a healthy body or something like that based on my weight. anyway, i thought that i would save money b/c they advertise breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 2 snacks per day. the portions are so small though that i'm eating 2 days' worth of food everyday and sometimes even buying a meal! i'm actually spending more money with this thing...what the crap?! can't send it back either b/c it's so heavy that shipping's going to cost me a fortune... each "meal" is like a snack and i don't think it's worth the money for the quality/quantity of food that they send. there's my two cents...spread the word... so i'm back in school and this semester's schedule looks like it sucks. can't complain tho. i'm done in december! woohoo!! |

| so i ordered nutrisystem. the food's so-so. not great, but tolerable. my farts don't smell too terrible contrary to kwak's comment. i'll do it for this month, but i will not be renewing when this month's over. i love food too much. i'll just watch my portions. also, due to the olympics being on, i will not be doing P90X b/c i want to have the olympics on while i workout. i probably won't be studying like i should be for these finals either...doh! |

| so i'm thinking about ordering nutrisystem so that i don't have to cook. good idea or bad idea? |

| what a crazy week...may have been one of the most tiring weeks i've ever had.
friday - clinic from 9 - 12. clinical medicine midterm at 2. dinner for my module's resident at clinic. then met up with jenny, walter and a bunch of other heads at facenda. didn't bowl b/c i didn't have my equipment and was mad tired. bummy beat johnny for the belt tho. we going to start up sunday night bowling again? i want a shot at this belt! haha saturday - clinic from 9 - 4. farewell party at manayunk brewery for the residents b/c it was their last weekend here in philly. sunday - my nephew, austin's first birthday party monday - iron chef PCO; i made honey-glazed salmon with asparagus spears and peanuts (the sauce was honey, dijon mustard, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, and butter topped with crushed honey-roasted peanuts on top, and baked at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes. as an appetizer, i made salmoncakes (the secret ingredient was salmon) dipped in flour and egg and served with a sweet chili sauce on the side. i thought i did a pretty good job and even the person that won said that she liked my dishes the best. but alas, i lost and i will never do it again because i had to slave in my kitchen for over 4 hours to make enough samples to feed 40+ people who would be in the audience. we didn't even end up raising all that much money for SOSH, but it was fun. tuesday - class from 8-5. went to mama's store to help out for a little bit. then to my aunt's house to install a couple digital tv tuners. wednesday - class from 8-12. patient care from 1-9. parents house to celebrate my nephew's actual first b-day. then to the drake to grab a couple drinks with the residents (final day). thursday - woke up at 5 am to drive my aunt to lawrenceville, nj. patient care from 8 - 12. took a nap. lab from 3-5. seafood night at my buddy's house. found a good seafood place behind mcdonalds near cheltenham square mall. 1/2 bushel for $40, live or cooked, korean-owned. the girl worker there was pretty cute too. friday - patient care from 8 - 12. lecture from 1:30 - 4. went to help out at the store. drove down to delaware (friend's beach house). saturday - went to the beach. tried body boarding again. got roughed up by the waves. had sand and sea shell pieces all up in my ear, i was picking at it with q-tips for like an hour. drove back to philly for bella's 30th b-day party (she's exactly 29 years older than my nephew). happy birthday ahjumma! today - went around near willow grove mall to solicit businesses to give us money for SOSH for a couple of hours. then went to my parents' house b/c supposed today's the day to eat samgaetang to keep us cool for the rest of the summer or something. i hear that in korea they eat dog, but i guess we can't do that here. all it did was give me heartburn, must've either been the ginseng or the whole pieces of garlic that my mom threw in there. i'm just glad that she didn't put in dates like she did last time. that was disgusting. got home about an hour ago and was trying to arrange the pics of my nephew that i ganked off my brother's computer b/c i have OCD.
man, i'm getting tired just writing about what i did this week. needlessly to say, my P90X has been terrible the past couple of weeks and i was supposed to be finishing phase 2 of the program today. i think i'm just going to go ahead and start phase 3 tomorrow anyway.
SOSH - Student Optometrists in Service to Humanity so i'm going to haiti in september for a week to provide free eyecare to the haitians b/c they're really underprivileged down there. the leading causes of blindness down there are cataracts, refractive error (which is sad b/c they just need glasses but can't afford them), and i can't remember the other stuff, but there are a lot of diseases that just aren't treated b/c they don't have access to healthcare. we're going down there with some ophthalmologists, optometrists, and suitcases of glasses. trying to raise money so that we can go down there. extra proceeds go to giving various health services and cataract surgery to the ones that it can help the most.
it's late but i feel like a beach whale, so i'm going to do a quick workout before going to bed. so glad that i only have pediatrics lab from 10-12 tomorrow. maybe i'll finally be able to catch up on some sleep. i've had this twitch on my upper left eyelid for the past month and it's really annoying. |
